Report for Wednesday, Sept 8th

Movie News: And I got a sneak at King Richard, opening Thanksgiving. The true story of super dad Richard Williams and his lifetime plan for his daughters Venus and Serena. From the super ghetto of Compton to the superheroes of the Tennis world, this is a super movie! Will Smith plays Richard Williams and I would be shocked if Will doesn’t get an Oscar nomination! It’s the best acting in Will Smith’s career, period. By the way, Demi Singleton and Saniyya Sidney are fabulous as the sisters. Get ready! … And another great movie opening in 3 weeks, The Many Saints of Newark, the prequel of The Sopranos. You’ve heard how great Michael Gandolfini is as the young Tony Soprano, originally played by his dad James, but there is so much more to this film! The writing is stunning and Ray Liotta could get a best supporting nod. Opens October 1st.

TV and Music Note: John Lennon’s Imagine 50th Anniversary party is a celebration of the iconic album and Yoko, friends and new footage will highlight this very special occasion tomorrow on Apple and Amazon. Memories, it was 50 years ago tomorrow.

Odds and Ends: Kim Kardashian brags 90% of her purses are made from alligator, snake, ostrich, lizard and other animal skins and PETA is not happy about it. … Andrea Constand and 16 other woman who have civil lawsuits against Bill Cosby for sexual assault and rape met with the media again to express their outrage of Cosby’s release! My prediction, every one of these women will win their cases.

Head’s Up: I mentioned it yesterday and again today with the 20th anniversary of 9/11, please watch Netflix documentary series Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror. Must see. … Rob O’Neal, the Navy Seal who shot Bin Laden now says the 28 men on that mission were told it was a suicide mission, probably not coming back, but not one backed out.

Show Biz: Following the footsteps of Cagney, Reagan, Heston and Asner, congratulations to Fran Drescher, the new president of SAG-AFTRA

And funny sign I saw read, “When the smog lifts, UCLA.” Nuff said.
