Remember, Joaquin didn’t want to do the Joker in the first place. He hates comic book movies, he considers himself a thespian and has always blasted sequels as nothing but studio money grabs. Phoenix is worth millions and doesn’t need the money, and just the risk of the sequel being a flop is enough for him to say forget it. If I was a betting man I’d say 30/70, it’s a no. But studio execs already have an idea for the sequel, it would pick up 10 years later.
