Want to share a couple old Mike Evans stories for you this morning.
The biggest story of the day comes from Olympic gymnast champions Nadia Comaneci, Kerri Strug and Mary Lou Retton accusing trainer Bela Karolyi and his wife Martha of sexual assault and physical and psychological abuse. Now I can tell you a story. I was hired to entertain the athletes at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics every night inside the USC Olympic village. And back then a couple of the female gymnast trained by the Karolyi’s were caught stealing food, saying they were starving them and they were living on toothpaste. The story was buried but I never forgot it. This new book proves it.
And as promised yesterday. When I was living in Redondo Beach in the 70’s doing mornings at KNAC, my roomie, John Thomas, was a musician. He and a couple buddies were playing at Tony’s at the Pier. One night after their gig, at 2 A.M. they came over to our apartment, drinking, playing their music, waking me up. I got up screaming, “I have a real job and I need my sleep, don’t need your caterwauling keeping me up ! So John, Larry and you too Vince, get out!” That Vince was Vince Gill, just months before he joined the Pure Prairie League. Hope you like my stories, I got a million of them.
TV News: The TV series, La Brea, will air on NBC this fall. It’s a drama about a family that gets separated when the Los Angeles La Brea Tar Pits becomes a mile wide sinkhole. The La Brea tar pits are located at 5801 Wilshire and there is a fabulous museum there. But here’s the kicker, La Brea is being shot in Sydney, Australia. … Also being shot in Sydney and airing on NBC, the comedy, Joe Exotic, starring John Cameron Mitchell as you know who and Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin. … I told you about, Mare of Easttown, and it’s the hottest thing on TV, up 38%. Check it out Sunday nights on HBO.
