Report for Tuesday, June 18th

Movie News: Winning the Best Movie at the Cann this year was the film, Anora. Called a comedy, romance about a sex worker shot in New York and Las Vegas. Release date isn’t until October 18th in limited and November 1st wide release.

There is a release date for Francis Ford Coppola’s 2 Hour 40 Minute, $120 million sci-fi  called Megalopolis, it is September 27th. Prediction, huge, huge bomb!

So Hollywood is holding it’s breath to see how Kevin Costner’s 3 hour western epic, Horizon: An American Epic Part One will do this weekend when it opens Thursday. Costner haters are quick to point out the pre-sales are horrible! That is true, however make no mistake, in my opinion, this is an epic, great movie, but the haters and the 3 hour length may kill it! The haters point out Costner’s 1994 western Wyatt Earp was also a Box Office flop. An interesting sidebar, I loved the Wyatt Earp movie and did you know Earp, the famed cowboy actually died in 1929 in Los Angeles and was a LAPD cop, and Wyatt was 81 years old when he expired.

TV News and Update: I was a little rough on the CBS show Elsbeth. I called it silly, corny and lame. Well Elsbeth has been renewed for a second season. And it’s still a little corny and the writing is weak, however it’s not bad compared to some of the junk out there, like the reboot and second season renewal of Frazier.

Here are the five most watched shows last week. #5 NBC News with Lester Holt, #4 America’s Got Talent, #3 NBA Final’s Post Game Show, #2 ABC Nightly News with David Muir, and #1 NBA Finals. F.Y.I. best ratings for Stanley Cup Finals came in #11.

Sad note hearing Jack Nicholson (87) is suffering from dementia and is not doing well at all.
