Report for Thursday, Mar 11th

My producer tells me that I never reviewed Da 5 Bloods. Not only does it deserve an Oscar nomination for best picture, Spike Lee deserves a nomination for best director! Spike keeps you on your toes with great action, flashbacks and thought provoking right from wrong. Four African American Vietnam veterans head back to Nam to find and bury their leader who was killed in action and to unbury gold they hid during the war. Well written, well acted and solid in every way. While critics loved it, audiences not so much. I give it 3 ½ stars. Available now on Netflix.

Show Biz Business: There were meetings yesterday but nothing decided, however it appears the Academy Awards will be held April 25th at the Los Angeles Union Train Station and not the Dolby Theater due to Covid. Final decision this weekend. Nominations coming on Monday. … Perhaps because California Governor Gruesome realizes he’s about to be recalled, he has opened up Hollywood studios to start production. That’s great news for Hollywood … Yesterday, Disney+ signed it’s 100,132,000 subscriber, who needs Disneyland? … Looks like The Walking Dead is dead. Worst ratings ever and costly to produce, see ya. … NBC sales staff is busy, they got MLB, Winter Olympics, NFL, NFL Play-offs, the Summer Olympics, Stanley Cup Championships and Super Bowl. Ka-ching for NBC.

Amazon will allow you to order Hitler’s Mein Kampf but not Dr. Seuss! Disney calling Dumbo, Peter Pan, Aristocats and more to come racist. What next book burning? What happened to free speech, land of the free. What’s going on here, are movies next?

Odds and Ends: For the first time since turning Pro golfer, Phil McKilson has dropped out of the top 100. While Phil always flashed his boyish grin for cameras that’s not the real Phil, nuff said. … In case you wondered, the State with the most dangerous drivers is Texas. … Covid is keeping trash piled up in N.Y.C., some places 5 feet high, a picture of all that trash was on the front page of the N.Y. Post with the headline, “It’s The Pig Apple.”
