Oppenheimer opens today and wont match Barbie’s box office and the movies are as different as night and day, but for me, if you were only going to see one of them, Oppenheimer is the one to see. Director Christopher Nolan has outdone himself. And the acting is fabulous, starting with Cillian Murphy who will undoubtedly get an Oscar nomination, as will Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt is also fabulous. All are great. You feel all the tension and a personal connection to the story while understanding the importance, fear and resolve to execute their project. Every process of making the Atom bomb is explained while often confusing, you feel included. Murphy’s character is complicated yet convicted to his research which he believes his bomb will save lives. The movie is a masterpiece that intertwines history with the unknown and showing human frailty in the process (Rated R) – (3 Hours) – (4 Stars). Interesting sidebar, both Oppenheimer and Barbie both cost $100 million to make!
Hollywood Strike Shenanigans: Several hundred strikers are picketing at Universal Studios, and during the night Universal bigwigs cut back all the trees that the strikers were marching under. Weather forecast for those strikers, now with no shade, 92 degrees. F.Y.I. one of the strikers, Mandy Moore who starred in the This Is Us TV show, brought a residual check with her that was for one penny. She said she gets a lot of checks for much more but, in her opinion she has never been paid what she was suppose to be paid!
Johnny Depp Follow-up: Depp has now canceled his Hollywood Vampire concerts and apparently it has to do with that bad leg injury I told you about yesterday. More follow up, so while Joe Manganiello has said it was Sofia Vergara’s partying that caused their divorce, amazingly, Sofia blame’s Joe’s sobriety! Really? That’s just bizarre.
