Report for Monday, Sept 9th

Good, Sad and Bad news on Nicole Kidman. The good news is she won Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival in Babygirl. A crime, thriller, mystery that also stars Antonio Banderas and will open nation wide on Christmas Day. The Sad News, the day before winning the award, Nicole’s mother died in Australia and Nichole headed home. The bad news, Nicole’s mini-series on Netflix, Perfect Couple, is horrible (1 Star).

TV News: So NBC very quietly canceled the Friday editions of The Tonight Show, and it will now be on only four nights a week. They should cancel the whole thing! Ratings are horrible, Fallen is horrible, the whole thing has turned into an abortion. Once Carson,  Leno and Letterman left, late night is one big yawner, just horrible. … So Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen are going to co-star in a limited series called, The JonBenet Ramsey Story. I probably went to Boulder 15 times covering that story that never went anywhere, and we still don’t know who killed that sweet little six year old girl on Christmas Day 27 years ago! So what’s new? Nothing! Which brings the question, why in the hell are the dredging it up now? Ridiculous!

Documentaries and Rock and Roll: Elton John: Never Too Late had a short run on Disney+ and will be streaming everywhere next month and then on limited theaters Thanksgiving. … And Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band documentary will hit Hulu on October 25th. Both of these documentaries are solid and worth seeing.

Sports Shorts: Great to see the NFL back in action. Regarding Tom Brady’s debuting as a TV announcer. On a scale of 1-5 with this being the first game, I give him a 2. Brady wasn’t bad but repeated himself a lot and often spewed the obvious. Only so-so. And should be interesting Monday Night Football, Aaron Rodgers and the Jets against the 49ers.
