Report for Friday, Nov 17th

Movies, movies, movies for Thanksgiving holiday.

We start with the new, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I love the franchise, loved the novel but this latest movie just doesn’t make it! Clumsy, scattered, confusing and it doesn’t help that it’s 2 hours 43 minutes long. Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler and Peter Dinklage are solid, but movie isn’t (2 Stars).

Thanksgiving, the movie not the holiday, is shocking, scary and filled with surprises! When a Black Friday turns into a very bad Friday, all bets are off. There’s no holiday cheer here, but this is no turkey! If being petrified is your thing you’ll love it (Rated R) – (100 Minutes) – (3.5 Stars).

Next, If you are looking for goofy, silly, brainless and foolish for the kids, then Trolls Band Together is mainly for your kids. Personally I rather have root canal. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake star (PG) – (90 Minutes) – (2 Stars).

For me, the best new release is the true sports comedy, Next Goal Wins. The true story of the American Samoa Soccer team. The worst team to ever play in a World Cup, who got killed by Australia, 31-0 back in 2001. I may be the only critic who liked it! (Rated PG-13) – (100 Minutes) – (3 Stars) but again, that’s just me.

And a hold over movie is The Holdovers with Paul Giamatti who plays a professor at a prep school who spends the holidays with a couple students who don’t have a family to spend the holidays with (4 Stars).

Shocker, I’ve been so excited to see Napoleon which opens today. Studios have been sending press releases, a lot of buzz. Now I haven’t seen it, however, some reviewers who have seen it, say it sucks! From must see to must not see. I’ve never seen a movie get such different extreme reviews. Sorry, you are on your own.

Have a safe weekend and Happy Thanksgiving.
