Movie Review Friday: And we start with The Good Liar, with Academy Award winner Helen Mirren and two time Oscar nominated Ian McKellen. With these two truly greats, and no surprise their acting is superb. This is a really fun movie with unexpected twists and turns, lot’s of suspense, great flashbacks and plenty tongue in cheek surprises. McKellen’s character is a first class con artist and his target is Mirren who is sharp as a tack. This is a thriller yet a lot of fun! (Rated R) – (105 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
Next, Honey Boy. Holy crap, never seen anything like it, the loose, true story of Shia LaBeouf and written by Shia LaBeouf. The story of a harsh, demanding, dad who was a rodeo clown and a felon, and Shia even plays a version of his own dad in the film. Dad’s rules and regulations force his son to be an actor and dad is creepy, weird and clueless. My run in with LaBeouf was after his dad was long gone and his Momager was boss. Shia fought horrible drug and alcohol demons, but finally, Shia LaBeouf got straight. (Rated R) – (90 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
Opening in limited engagement, The Report. It’s the story of Daniel Jones who investigated the CIA’s pattern of brutal and torture interrogations of suspected terrorist following 9-11. While Jones wanted the truth be told, the government obviously didn’t. Stars Adam Driver as Jones, Annette Bening plays California Senator Dianne Feinstein, Ted Levine plays John Brennan. Informing and well made. (Rated R) – (118 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
And don’t forget Ford v Ferrari is (4 Stars), and Charlie’s Angels is (3 Stars).
Personal Note, yesterday I had a skin cancer removed, it took 27 stitches on my chest, actually right on my left boob. I’ll be fine but think my Hooter’s career is over.
