Report for Friday, May 17th

Movie Review Friday: And IF, which stands for Imaginary Friends, opened yesterday with big numbers and is directed by John Krasinski, and voices supplied by a lot of stars including Emily Blunt, Sam Rockwell, Steve Carell, and Matt Damon. Cailey Fleming and Ryan Reynolds interact with our favorite cartoon characters. Look the animation, dialog and story plays to kids, pure and simple! (Rated PG) – (100 Minutes) and a very rare split rating, for kids (4 Stars). For adults (2 Stars). … Next, After a limited run, Back to Black is back. The honest, straight forward biography of Amy Winehouse, from adolescence to adulthood that ended tragically at the age of 27. A sad love story mixed with drug, booze and calamity throughout! (Rated R) – (2 Hours) – (3 Stars). … And don’t forget, Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes is still out there (4 Stars.

Final Movie Nugget: There’s The Con, The South by Southwest, Sundance, Palm Springs, Venice and Toronto Film Festivals. But never could have imagined there would be a San Quintin Film Festival, but on Oct 10, 2024 Hollywood will bring a bunch of movies to show the inmates. Unbelievable.

Show Biz Business: There seems to be more and more new package streaming services every week. And the latest is called Venu, with Fox, Disney and Warner Bros. all having equal ownership. They will also air ESPN channels, ABC and Fox sports programming, The Discovery Channel, TNT, Tru TV and TBS. … Speaking of streaming services, Netflix is really getting into sports. They have just green lighted documentaries on Simone Biles and The Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. They are also producing Happy Gilmore 2 with Adam Sandler. And yesterday I told you about Netflix producing the Will Ferrell’s sports comedy series Golf. And Netflix is in constant meetings with the NFL, MLB and NASCAR.
