Movie Reviews: First, The Last Black Man In San Francisco, is not playing everywhere now but will be soon. This is one of my top 10 movies of the year. Two poor lifelong friends who work together go into the city to visit Jimmy’s late grandfather’s mansion. But, when they see it’s abandoned, they decide to move in. A heart throbbing, tear jerking very special film. (Rated R) – (2 Hours) – (4 Stars).
Opening everywhere is Late Night. Mindy Kaling wrote and directed this gem, with the help from cast members, Emma Thompson and John Lithgow. This is a different, fresh comedy delight that will make you laugh out loud. Emma plays the only female Late-Night TV host, who’s ratings are slipping, because of the all-white men corny writers who couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat. So they hire the first female writer, Mindy Kaling, and the laughs explode. (Rated R) – (102 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
Also opening everywhere is The Secret Life of Pets 2. What are those pets of ours up to everyday when we go to work. I liked the 1st movie; I liked this one too. Kevin Hart voices Snowball, Harrison Ford is Rooster and Eric Stonestreet is Duke. It is what it is, delightful and fun for the entire family. Take the kids. (Rated PG) – (86 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
Sorry but that brings us to Dark Phoenix. Bad writing, bad acting, weak effects. Don’t know what Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender were thinking. This movie is bunk, hokum and meaningless. (PG-13) – (2 Hours) – (1 Stars).
And a reminder, Rocket Man is playing, (4 Stars), you’ll love it.
