Report for Friday, June 18th

Movie Review Friday: The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard stars Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Antonio Banderos, Morgan Freeman and Salma Hayek. This is a shoot ‘em up, blow ‘em up comedy. It’s over the top, sometimes just goofy, corny and ridiculous but the entertainment value, for me, makes it well worth seeing. Stay with me, although confusing and disjointed, its jokes are funny and the chemistry between the actors is great. The film is like a wreck you can’t take your eyes off (3 Stars).

Gaia was the winner of the SXSW Film Festival. It’s a horror movie, very different from any horror movie I have ever seen. When a forest ranger is injured, she is rescued by two off the grid survivalist and learns there’s a lot more things in the forest than bears. Creative in every way and this movie could give you nightmares.

TV Ratings News: Top three watched show last week were America’s Got Talent, 60 Minutes and NBA Play-offs. … Biggest 2021 loser shows by network, formula of audience, loss of revenue, cost and sponsorship, ABC’s Soul of a Nation, CBS’ One Day at a Time, Fox’s Premier Boxing Champions Fight Night, CW’s Dynasty, and NBC’s Ellen’s Game Of Games. … I’ve been excited about Peter Jackson’s, The Beatles: Get Back, the 6 hour Beatles documentary on Hulu. Never before seen footage and interviews of all the guys but mainly Paul McCartney. Originally scheduled for an August release, will now be released on Thanksgiving. … Will Smith’s hero was Johnny Carson during his high school days and always wanted to do a variety talk/entertainment show and now he will get his chance on Netflix.

Two week ending personal notes. Happy Birthday to the sweetest, kindest, most loving person in the world, the greatest thing in my life, my wife Cheryl! My family calls her long suffering Cheryl, because she’s married to me. Probably true. … And don’t forget my book, Imposters, an easy pick-up on Amazon. And congratulations to my best friend and author of my book, Richard Blade who has just been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
