Movie Review Friday: Fantasy Island is not da plane, da plane TV version. To get to this Fantasy Island, you take a special elevator. What first appears to be heaven on Earth, this Fantasy Island turns your dreams into Nightmares. It’s bloody, scary, edgy but funny! It’s This is an odd film that’s intriguing, terrifying and violent. Lucy Hale, Portia Doubleday, Maggie Q and Michael Peña star. (PG-13) – (110 Minutes) – (2 ½ Stars).
Also opening today, Sonic The Hedgehog. The original video game is back as a delightful live action kids movie for the whole family. Starring James Marsden and Jim Carrey. Sidebar, Jim Carrey, who on Monday I called a very rude, very weird dude, embarrassed the studio while promoting the film in England by repeatedly making sexual innuendos to a female TV interviewer. The studio apologized for Carrey behavior, but Carrey did not. No Surprise. Back to the movie (Rated-G) – (85 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
The other movie opening is Downhill, starring Will Ferrell and Julia Louis Dreyfus. When Will, Julia and their 2 kids are on a skiing vacation, an avalanche hits the resort and Will runs for cover rather than assisting the family. You could call it a Dramady. (PG-13) (100 Minutes) – (2 Stars).
