Report for Friday, Aug 6th

Well, it’s Movie Review Friday and it’s seldom I can say, out today, one of the best movies of the year, heck with covid wear a mask school shopping can wait, go to the  movies! Suicide Squad is the best DC film in a long time. It takes the worst of the worst to save the world and Margot Robbie is fabulous as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba is Bloodsport, John Cena is the Peacemaker, Pete Davidson is great as the Blackguard and even Joel Kinnaman and Sylvester Stallone, are strong! There are a lot more heroes and surprise cameos, plenty of action, great effects and it’s hilarious! (Rated R) – (2 Hours) – (4 Stars).

Let me tell you about, Swan Song. The movie starring German actor Udo Kier, Jennifer Coolidge and Linda Evans. In limited release, and I loved it! Kier plays a retired poor gay hair dresser who is living in a nursing home in Sandusky, Ohio when he is offered $25,000 to come out of retirement to do the hair of one of his richest former clients who has died. His trip is a trip. A serious film that is also hilarious. (PG 13) – (Under 2 Hours) – (4 Stars).

Odds and Ends: Theres a ridiculous story out there that John Travolta sold his Florida home because of all the flop movies he’s had, and he needs the money. That’s just plain poppycock. The main reason Travolta sold that house was it had too many memories of his wife, Kelly Preston, who died this last year. Actually Travolta is worth $175 million. Aother reason for the sale, to distance himself from Scientology. … Now it’s a called Podcast but in 1964, Lucille Ball called it her 10 minute radio show, Let’s Talk to Lucy. She did 240 of these 10 minute shows with the biggest names of Hollywood in those days, from Bob Hope to Frank Sinatra, and those shows are being released and should be entertaining for Hollywood history buffs. Like me. … An emergency hearing could remove Britney’s dad from the conservatorship this weekend.
