Movie Review Friday: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem opens today and it is loud, crazy, amusing, bright, compelling and a kids movie that adults will love. The writing and the voices work perfectly together to the point you almost believe it! This is truly the best of the franchise. The story tells about the good, the bad, the right and the wrong, while being hilarious when blended together (1 Hour 39 Minutes) – (PG-13) – (4 Stars). … That brings us to Meg 2: The Trench. It’s bigger than the 2018 version and if you like special effects, they are solid. However the plot line is goofy, and jumps all over to the point of being ridiculous. It’s amazing that this film got made, even more amazing it cost $150 million to make. The movie has some thrilling parts, but it’s really stupid (PG-13) – (2 Hours) – (1 Star).
Regarding the SAG/Writers and Studio Strike, there could be a settlement before we talk again on Monday. But I have a list of the actors who have been most present on the picket line, and they are Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck.
Odds and Ends: Paul McCartney (81) plans at least six concerts in Australia in December. … CBS has announced their first NCAA college game will be UTEP versus Jacksonville State on August 26th, followed by Hawaii versus Stanford in just 22 days. … The greatest broadway theater/cafe’s in New York is the Cafe Carlyle and Brooke Shields will be doing a one woman show at the Carlyle next month. She will sing, tell jokes and a lot of never before stories about her life. Should be great!
And a personal note, my old buddy, former Dodger announcer Vin Scully died a year ago this week. One of the nicest people I’ve ever known and have fond memories of the many dinners with Vin in Dodger’s Stadium and other Press Rooms around the country. Vinny always had a smile on his face, a great man, great family man and the greatest sports announcer ever. May he rest in peace.
