Pop Quiz: Name the celebrity who smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day before quitting, he never married, briefly did stand-up, suffers from chronic insomnia and only sleeps 3 hours a night. Is it John Cusack, Hugh Grant, Seth MacFarlane or Al Pacino?
A lot of movies coming out this weekend so getting a jump with two movie reviews today. Starting with Charlie’s Angeles, which is surprising good. Elizabeth Banks wrote, acts, and directed this film. Can you believe Charlie’s Angels debuted on ABC TV 40 years ago this month. The 3 new Angels are Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. These girls are hot and smart, the plot is solid and there’s plenty of action, there’s also lots of humor. Naturally some high brow critics are panning it, however, I liked it. I even predict a sequel. It is, fun, exciting, light and clever. (Rated PG-13) – (118 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
Next, Ford v Ferrari and it’s one of the best movies of the year. The true story of America’s greatest car designer, Carroll Shelby played by Matt Damon, and the worlds best race car driver Ken Miles played by Christian Bale. The challenge, for Ford is to go from a frumpy family car manufacture to to a very hip, high performance car manufacturer. And to prove they can do it, they face off against Ferrari at the 24 Hour French Le Mans Race in 1966. A detailed story, great acting, action and a modern day David versus Goliath. America ingenuity and true grit with great racing scenes. (PG-13) – (152 Minutes) – (4 Stars).
Tomorrow, we’ll review The Good Liar, The Report, Honey Boy and don’t forget the Irishman is opening in a few more markets.
Personal comment on the Impeachment. I have covered everything from Super Bowls to Inaugurations, but have only kept a few credentials, one is the credential for Jan 21, 1999, inside the Senate Chamber, the actual Impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton. It’s hanging on my wall, looking at it now, history!
Answer – Al Pacino.
