Movie Review Friday: Starting off with Terminator: Dark Fate, a retread of what was a great franchise, ah 35 years ago. 72 year old Arnold ‘the Gropinator’ Schwarzenegger is back and his over acting is embarrassing. Linda Hamilton is also back but she’s a treat. And got to say, the special effects are great as is newcomer, MacKenzie Davis. Just no reason to keep beating this dead horse. But it’s not bad. (Rated R) – (110 Minutes) – (2 ½ Stars).
Next, JoJo Rabbit, and for me, again it’s just my opinion, but this is the second best release film of the week. A wild, satire about a 10 year old boy who grows up as a Nazi and fantasizes hanging with a bizarre Adolf Hitler. Adding soul Charlize Theron plays his mom who is hiding a little Jewish girl. Funny, unique and sometimes serious. (PG-13) – (108 Minutes) – (3 ½ Stars).
Best release of the week is, Current War, the true battle between Thomas Edison, George Westinghouse and Tesla and the fight over the use of electricity. This is (4 Stars). … Western Stars is great, stories through flashbacks and Bruce Springsteen’s new 13 song album that he performs live. A beautiful movie with the theme of the old west. (3 Stars). … And don’t forget, Lighthouse with Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, I told you, (3 Stars). … And, Black and Blue, usual good cop, bad cop. Been there, done that, stars Naomie Harris. 2 ½ Stars. … And Joker, Judy and Downton Abbey are still playing!
