Movie Review Friday: It’s not Casablanca or Godfather but, love me some Zombieland: Double Tap, opening today. After 10 years, the most dysfunctional family on film is back. Off the wall and over the top, crazy, unpredictable the zombies are back! It’s like a 99 minute acid trip with popcorn. Starring Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg. You got to love a film that throws caution to the wind and flat ass goes for it! And anything goes. (Rated R) – (99 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
Next is, The Lighthouse, which is in limited release but if you can find it, go see it! What a great movie, film making at it’s best starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe. This proves you don’t need computer generated special effects to make a fabulous film, in fact it’s in B&W. A dark comedy you’ll talk about for hours after leaving the theater. Set in 1890. (110 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
Now, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. First things first, it’s rated PG and kids will love it despite it’s not a good movie, in fact, it’s another stiff for Disney and Angelina Jolie. Confusing, uneven pace, it’s just weak. On the positive side, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley and Michelle Pfeiffer are solid, and the costumes are 4 Stars. But all in all, take the kids, and parents grab a nap for the 2 hours. (1 ½ Stars).
TV Ratings: After slipping for a couple weeks, NFL ratings are back up. … And just in case you missed it, Snoop Dogg has hired a buddy just to roll joints for him and his crew. Dog says he’s the best joint roller he’s ever met, and is paying him $57,000 a year.
