Movie Review Friday: While I wasn’t expecting much from Jennifer Lopez’s, Hustlers, she was great and so was the movie. Well written and acted, this very slick dramady has a lot of drama and is very funny. Unique camera angles from a shot as seen by the characters point of view to odd but effective long shots. But it’s the story that floats this boat. Set in rough financial 2008, J-Lo and her friends including Constance Wu (who is the only weak link) work in a strip bar and are forced to bow down to rude filthy rich Wall Street dudes, but it’s the girls who get the last laugh, and boy do they get even. And note, it’s J-Lo’s best performance. (Rated R) – (110 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
Next up is, Brittany Runs A Marathon. Based on a true story, this little sleeper, may be the funniest movie of the summer. Stars Jillian Bell as a plump, party animal, socially clueless New Yorker. When she decides to change her life and dreams of running a marathon, get ready to laugh. But, she’ll have to loose 55 pounds, change her lifestyle, and take responsibility. Lots of twist and turns and a little bit of everything. A must see. (Rated R) – (104 Minutes) – (3 Stars).
The last movie is Goldfinch, a great book, a horrible movie. And I’ll leave it at that.
