Opening today, Gangster Squad! New York had Gatti and the Gambino’s, Chicago had Al Capone and Los Angeles had Mickey Cohen, a ruthless murdering thug who spent most of his time with Hollywood stars and models. He was bigger and meaner than life, and Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen is Oscar worthy. The cast includes Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte and Emma Stone. A squad of LAPD goes rouge and breaks all the rules to get Mickey Cohen. There was lot’s of violence then and in the movie. In fact a theater machine gun massacre was taken out of the movie because of the Denver shooting. I Love true movies about big personalities, and this is both. (Rated R) – (under 2 Hours) – (3 Stars) Side bar, Mickey Cohen is buried at Hillside Park here in LA, Cohen is buried between 3 Stooges, Moe Howard and comedian, Milton Beryl.
