Report for Monday, Sept 11th

First things first, where were you 22 year ago this morning?

TV News: So Jimmy Fallon is apparently being canceled due to his staff claiming he is mean and The Tonight Show is a toxic place to work. And while Jimmy apologized, he is basically gone. Comment, I’m sure this was part of the story, but the fact is Fallon was also being way overpaid, ratings have been bad and sponsors have been bailing, NBC was looking for any excuse to let him go. … So the CW Network has announced they will carry the 72nd Miss USA Contest live on September 29th. My question is why? I mean would you watch it? Not me.

Tonight the 54th season of Monday Night Football and I can’t wait to see Aaron Rodgers in a Jets uniform. Monday Night Football reminds me of all kinds of Howard Cosell stories. He sued me when I worked for the New York Post, a case he dropped by the way, and years later I had a run in with him when I was working at KABC radio in Los Angeles and he was there to record his syndicated show, “Speaking of Sports.” When he saw me in the hallway, he only said one thing, “You radio people are so simple.” I never saw Howard when he wasn’t drunk.

Movie News: Opening in very limited release is the film called Mob Land. Here’s the official description from the studio, and tell me if you would go see it. “A sherriff tries to keep the peace when a desperate family man violently robs a pill mill with his brother-in-law, alerting the New Orleans Mafia. Sounds horrible, is horrible and stars, ready, John Travolta. Travolta never was a good actor, and hasn’t had a real hit in over 20 years. Sad.

Music Note: Jimmy Buffet’s final album will be released November 3rd but you can hear three of the cuts on line and all three are great. They are Bubbles Up, Like My Dog, and the best tune, My Gummie Just Kicked In. May Jimmy rest in peace.
