Report for Friday, July 28th

Spacey Follow-up: Although Kevin Spacey was acquitted on all sexual assault charges this week in England, an impeccable source says you can stick a fork in Kevin’s career, it is done. Hollywood producers and studios believe Spacey is box office poison, they believe the public would not pay to see his movies. Remember, Spacey has been bombarded for decades of sexual misbehavior and this was the final nail in his professional coffin.

Movie Review Friday: We start with Haunted Mansion. I loved Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction and it was really scary! But good acting by folks like Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito and a host of others can’t make this movie scary. Bad writing, goofy plots and confusing. Not horrible but another Disney disappointment (PG-13) – (2 Hours) – (2 Stars). … But I have some good news, Talk to Me, also opens today and it’s as scary as hell! This film will freak you out, scream and you won’t be able to turn away. You’ll be grossed out but emotionally invested after 10 minutes. Best acting in a horror film in a long time and great writing (Rated R) – (90 Minutes) – (3.5 Stars). … And Oppenheimer, Barbie and Sound of Freedom are all still playing and are great! One funny nugget, a theater in India showed Oppenheimer, but accidentally ran Barbie subtitles, can you imagine how goofy that was?

Mattel Toys is so thrilled with the success of Barbie they are planning ten feature films, featuring more of their toys including Barney, Polly Pocket, Uno and Hot Wheels. They will be low budget films just for kids.

TV News: It’s basically a done deal, Tina Fey will replace Loren Michaels (78) who has made no secret that he wants to retire to Hawaii and bow out as Saturday Night Live’s boss. … Talk about odd, Ben Affleck’s friends say he has been depressed, appears glum, no joy, mood swings, sometimes bad temper. What the hell? He’s worth $150 million, he is married to Jennifer Lopez and a brilliant career. Has Ben’s drinking problem returned? Hope he’s still sober.
