Report for Friday, Mar 25th

Movie Review Friday: And we start with, The Lost City, and although it may not have the impact of other treasure hunting capers, it more than makes up for it with surprises, great writing and creative characters. There’s also a lot of laughs, albeit some are corny and predictable. A kidnapped billionaire and the treasure hunt keeps your attention but Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt are all sensational! It’s a summer block buster film in the spring (Rated PG-13) – (1 Hour 52 Minutes) – (3 Stars). … Next is, Infinite Storm. A true story about a mountain climber named Pam Bales, played brilliantly by Naomi Watts, who attempts to climb Mt. Washington in New Hampshire but a storm hits before she can get to the top and has to immediately retreat. However on her way down she discovers another climber, played by Billy Howle, who is nearly frozen, confused and delusional. It’s a fight against mother nature (Rated R) – (1 Hour 44 Minutes) – (3 Stars).

Sunday is the Oscars and here are my Big Pick 6. Best Supporting Actress is the only easy pick, Ariana DeBose in West Side Story will win. I like Troy Kotsur to win for Best Supporting Actor in CODA. Best Actress, Jessica Chastain in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Best Actor, Will Smith in King Richard. Best Director, Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog. And Best Picture, a toss up between The Power of the Dog and CODA. I’ll take CODA.

Odds and Ends: The one celebrity who has spent millions of dollars, that he didn’t have by the way, for the most exotic animals including tigers, elephants, giant anteaters, owls, octopuses, cobras and even a two headed snake is, no surprise, Nicholas Cage. … For the record, John Travolta getting a license to fly 737’s is no big deal for him. John already has a license to fly 747’s, 727’s, 707’s and 720’s which are harder planes to fly. … Most ridiculous item of the week. … Close friends of Vladimir Putin have asked Putin’s lover, Alina Kabaeva, to ask Putin to stop the war in Ukraine! Yeah, that works, by far the most ridiculous item of the week!
