Put theses dates on your calendar, great movies coming this month all on Netflix. First on December 4th, Mank, a truly fabulous movie all about Herman Mankiewicz who wrote Citizen Cain, Pride of the Yankees, the movie version of The Wizard of Oz and many others. The movie tells secrets of Hollywood in the 30s, 40s + 50’s. (4 Stars)
On December 8th, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, the best of the best. Set in 1927, the true story of the Mother of the Blues played by Viola Davis and constant conflicts between her and her best friend, enemy and her horn player, played by Chadwick Boseman. The music, the story, the acting is spectacular, oscar bound. Don’t miss it! (4 Stars)
Then on the 11th, The Prom. This gives Ma Rainey a run for the best of the best. It’s where midwest America High School prejudice meets Mama Mia. A very deep story and a musical as well. When a Broadway cast including Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and James Corden find out a small Indiana high school won’t let two girls attend the prom, they head to Indiana to try to change their decision and their way of thinking. (4 Stars)
And December 23rd, George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky. A very creative movie with Clooney playing an 2090 astronaut who has to worn other astronauts, earth has been destroyed and not to return, all while traveling in space with a little girl. Thought provoking. (4 Stars). So, Dec 4, Dec 8, Dec. 11 and Dec 23, four 4 star movies showing in your living room!
And one of the most sought after TV shows has landed at ABC. Felicity Huffman returns from jail to star in a yet un-named sitcom based on a true story. It’s about Susan Savage who inherits the Sacramento River Cats, a minor league AAA baseball team, after her husband dies. Her crazy family have all kinds of ideas what they should do to make the team better, and it includes lots of laughs, surprises and heartbreaks.
