First Movie Reviews: Opening today and on Netflix, one of the best movies ever! The Trial of the Chicago 7. Back in 1968, the country was torn apart even more than it is now with hundreds and hundreds of dead Americans being killed in Vietnam every week, he protests against the war had reached a fever pitch. In July the Democrats had their National convention in Chicago and since the Democrats were for keeping the war going, thousands of protesters showed up and were met by police brutality and causing riots. It’s all true folks, I know, I was there and I saw it all. This movie is about the ridiculous trail against the seven leaders of the legitimate non violent protest. Staring Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alex Sharp, Frank Langella, Michael Keaton, Jeremy Strong and many others. And it’s directed by Aaron Sorkin (Very strong 4 Stars).
Next is, The More You Ignore Me. An off the wall British comedy streaming everywhere and at selected theaters. It’s about a sweet mother with some mental health issues. Her daughter has an unhealthy affection for the Smiths in general and more say in particular. It’s disjointed, uneven and hard to follow, however very funny and entertaining. Set in the 1980’s, and I loved it (3 ½ Stars).
TV Review: Greyhound, the W.W.2 movie starring Tom Hanks debuts on Apple TV (4 Stars). … And premiering on Netflix, a documentary on the K-Pop group Blackpink, one of the hottest female singing groups in the world. They are from Korea, tore up Coachella and their story is fun and fascinating (3 Stars).
And three rare book recommendations. If you have book readers on your Christmas list, these three books just voted the best Crime Series Novels, that my wife says she couldn’t put down. They are, All the Devils are Here by Louise Penny, The Darkest Evening by Ann Cleeves and Still Life by Val McDermid.
